Everything you need to know about insulation

Because the choice of insulation is one of the most critical decisions you can make when building or renovating a house. And the expression “performance without compromise” deserves a clear explanation, particularly in a context in which many materials make claims, but few genuinely deliver.

What does “performance without compromise” mean?

In the context of insulation, it means achieving maximum efficiency, durability and safety, without having to give up other important things. In other words:

  • It insulates thermally very well, but without creating moisture problems.

  • It provides acoustic comfort, without heavy or toxic materials.

  • It is durable over time, without settling or degrading.

  • It is safe for health, without harmful emissions or irritant fibres.

  • It is easy to install, without waste, dust or complicated operations.

  • It is sustainable, yet also high-performing – not merely “eco” in theory.

What should you know when choosing insulation for your home?

1. Not all materials are the same

Mineral wool, polystyrene, foam, natural fibres – each has advantages and limitations. What matters is knowing what you sacrifice when you choose an apparently inexpensive or “classic” solution.

2. Read beyond the R or λ values

λ (W/mK), thermal conductivity: how easily the material conducts heat; the lower it is, the better the material insulates. What this means →

Thermal conductivity does not tell the whole story. Good insulation must be dimensionally stable, must not settle, must resist moisture and must remain effective in real time, not merely on paper.

3. Look at health and emissions

Choose materials free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), free of formaldehyde and free of fibres harmful to the lungs. Your home must be a safe place, not a source of hidden toxins.

4. Check compatibility with the structure of the house

The material must “work” well with the rest of the construction. Insulation that does not allow the wall to breathe can lead to mould, even if it apparently insulates well.

5. Service life is essential

Insulation that “fails” after 10 years costs more in the long term than one that lasts a lifetime. Invest once, not twice.

Comparative guide

Criterion Isoflect Insulation Mineral wool (stone/glass) EPS polystyrene XPS polystyrene Polyurethane foam
Thermal conductivity (λ) Very low (≈ 0.022-0.030 W/mK) Medium (0.035–0.045 W/mK) Medium (0.038–0.045 W/mK) Low (0.030–0.035 W/mK) Very low (0.022–0.028 W/mK)
Sound insulation Excellent Good Poor Poor Medium
Moisture resistance Excellent – breathable, without condensation Medium (may retain water) Very poor (sensitive to moisture) Good Very good (but impermeable)
Long-term stability Permanent, with a lifetime warranty Settles over time Settles and degrades Good, but mechanically fragile May degrade over time
Health and safety 100% safe – no VOCs, no fibres Irritant to skin and lungs Chemically inert, but may emit VOCs Inert, but not breathable Toxic emissions on combustion, VOCs
Fire behaviour Class B – fire-retardant and safe A1 – non-combustible E – easily combustible D – combustible, produces toxic smoke Variable – may be flammable
Installation Fast, clean, without waste Requires protection, produces dust Easy, but fragile during handling Rigid, difficult to adjust Specialist application by a team
Compatibility with vapour-open walls Yes – ideal for breathable constructions and passive houses Limited No No No
Sustainability 100% recyclable, low impact Partially recyclable No No No
Long-term cost One-off, durable investment Medium cost, but may require maintenance/replacement Low cost, short service life Medium cost, medium service life Low cost, variable durability, in most cases short. Replacement involves demolition + reconstruction of the house.

Why choose Isoflect Insulation thermal insulation systems?

You build intelligently when you choose solutions that deliver genuine efficiency, health and durability. Isoflect Insulation systems are developed for those who do not make compromises.

1. Thermal performance at the highest level

You reduce energy losses and maintain constant indoor comfort, regardless of the season.

2. Advanced acoustic comfort

Isoflect materials effectively block external noise, providing quiet where it matters.

3. No condensation, no mould

The systems allow walls to breathe, removing excess moisture without loss of performance.

4. Health at the centre of attention

No toxic substances, no irritant fibres, no harmful emissions – ideal for healthy homes and clean spaces.

5. Long-term stability

The products do not settle, do not degrade and retain their properties indefinitely.

6. Simple, fast and clean installation

No dust, no mess, no complications. Fast installation and immediate efficiency.

7. Designed as a system, not as separate products

All components – thermal insulation, membranes, accessories – are designed to work together, for results without compromise.

8. Flexibility in any project

From passive houses and commercial buildings to industrial or technological applications – Isoflect adapts perfectly.

9. Ecological from A to Z

Recyclable materials, sustainable production processes, reduced environmental footprint.

10. Lifetime warranty

Once installed, the Isoflect system protects your building throughout its entire existence – without interventions, without worries.
